Schools in Christchurch
There are some excellent schools in Christchurch at both primary and secondary levels. Christchurch Junior School is ‘good’ whereas both St Joseph’s RC Primary and the Priory CofE are ‘good with outstanding features’. Mudeford Junior was awarded ‘outstanding’ across the board in its latest Ofsted inspection.
There are three popular secondary schools throughout Christchurch. The Grange is ‘good and improving’ and Highcliffe is ‘good with many outstanding features’. Twynham has academy status and is ‘outstanding’.
Beaches Around Christchurch
Although Christchurch is a fraction inland, there are some wonderful beaches just a few minutes’ drive away. Southbourne beach is located in the eastern suburbs of Bournemouth but is much quieter than the other popular coastal haunts. The sandy beach has a lifeguard service, lots of parking, and a promenade with refreshments.
Quay beach is equally as near to Christchurch, but in the opposite direction, in Mudeford. The small sandy stretch is a great place to launch canoes and small boats, or enjoy a picnic on the vast expanse of grass in the summer.
One of the most coveted beaches is Mudeford Sandbank. The tiny spit of beach is located at the mouth of Christchurch harbour and only accessible via a 15-minute walk, ferry, or land train running from Hengistbury Head car park. However, on a stunning summer’s day, it is undoubtedly worth the journey.
Transport Links Christchurch
The A35 which runs through Christchurch can be subject to congestion and a lot of locals rely upon public transport during rush hour. There are a number of local and regional buses and the vast majority travel through or terminate in Bournemouth.
Christchurch railway station provides direct trains, both stopping and semi-fast services, to Bournemouth, London Waterloo, Weymouth, and Poole. Trains to Bournemouth take seven minutes and the fastest services to London Waterloo take 1 hour 50 mins.
Bournemouth Airport is just four miles from Christchurch and provides chartered flights to the likes of Gran Canaria, Mallorca, Rhodes, and Geneva.
