Moving to Falkirk
Falkirk is a popular place to live, it is a growing town located in the Forth Valley, that benefits from being halfway between Edinburgh and Glasgow, with lots to explore in the surrounding areas.
Falkirk is steeped in history. The Antonine Wall, dating from the second century, marked the northern frontier of the Roman Empire and now has UNESCO World Heritage status. You can experience life in centuries gone by at the impressive mansion of Callendar House, which stands in the attractive Callendar Park. Furthermore, the 15th century fortress of Blackness Castle provided the perfect setting for the film adaptation of Hamlet, starring Mel Gibson and Glenn Close.
A more recent attraction is the popular Kelpies, beautiful sculptures sited in Helix Park, representing the horse industry in Scotland.
Falkirk has a range of properties to choose from in different styles, from 1 bed flats to 6 bed family homes, with the most sought after area being in the centre of town.
Education in Falkirk
There are plenty of schools in Falkirk, serving all of the different catchment areas. St Andrew’s and Carronshore are the most popular primary schools, and received very good HM inspection results.
Falkirk is served by eight secondary schools which have all been rebuilt or renovated in previous years. Braes High School, Denny High School, Falkirk High School, and St Mungo’s High School all received fantastic inspection reports and are highly regarded in Falkirk.
Falkirk is also home to one of the four campuses of Forth Valley College; a merger of Falkirk, Stirling and Clackmannan colleges. The Falkirk Campus is the largest of all the campuses.
Falkirk Transport Links
Falkirk benefits from having two train stations; Falkirk High and Falkirk Grahamston. Both stations have direct services to Edinburgh, with journey times of 30 minutes. Both Grahamston and Falkirk High have direct trains also running to Glasgow Queen Street station. From Falkirk High, trains are just over 20 minutes, whereas from Grahamston, it is just under 1 hour.
Glasgow Airport is under 35 minutes away from Falkirk and has numerous flights nationally and to destinations in Europe. There are also flights to America, the Caribbean, Asia, Australia, the Middle East, and Africa.
Falkirk has the M9 to its east and the M80 to its west. This allows the town to be extremely well connected by road, easily commutable to both Glasgow and Edinburgh – but be wary of rush hour traffic.
There are also a multitude of bus services covering all the areas of Falkirk.
