About Lowestoft

Lowestoft is the most easterly town in the UK, cited as the best place in the country to watch the sunrise. It’s situated on the coast in Suffolk, 22 miles south-east of Norwich. The seaside town first developed with the fishing industry before turning to oil and gas. Now, it’s becoming the regional centre for the renewable energy industry.

Lowestoft has much to see and do for both tourists and residents alike. The town is home to beautiful, award-winning beaches with golden sands and gorgeous views. As a seaside town, there is lots of maritime history to learn about, including at the Maritime Museum and Heritage Quay. Lowestoft is also great for shoppers, with independent boutiques and major high street retailers across the town. There is also a vibrant arts culture in Lowestoft – the Marina Theatre is the eastern home of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Lowestoft Arts Centre houses a gallery and teaching studios.

Lowestoft is connected to London via the A12, with journeys by car taking around 3 hours and 45 minutes. Journeys to Norwich via the A47 will take around an hour.

Lowestoft railway station is conveniently located within walking distance to the seafront and town centre. Trains to Norwich take around 45 minutes and trains to Ipswich take around an hour and a half. Trains to London take just over two hours and 45 minutes and will require a change.

Lowestoft is also served by routes to Norwich and Great Yarmouth, including to the surrounding villages. There is a National Express Coaches stop in Lowestoft on the London to Great Yarmouth route.
