With trains taking just 28 minutes to London and with 86% of its state schools rated either ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ according to Ofsted, High Wycombe is becoming a very popular commuter destination for ex-Londoners. Those who have jobs in the city but now have (or want) a family are flocking to the Buckinghamshire town, which also boasts relatively modest property prices compared to other commuter towns with fantastic schools.

Due to being a centre for the wool and furniture industries in times gone by, properties in High Wycombe range from magnificent Victorian detached homes to contemporary newbuilds. Those leaving London with families can purchase a four-bedroom detached home for a minimum of £400,000 or a large semi for £310,000. Smaller detached and semidetached family homes start at £250,000. First-time buyers can get their hands on a two-up two-down terrace for as little as £200,000 and flats start at £155,000 for one bedroom, or £175,00 for two.

Schools in High Wycombe

Transport Links High Wycombe

With the M40 just to the south of the town, High Wycombe has easy access to the M25 London Orbital. Central London can be driven to in just under an hour whereas, in the opposite direction, Oxford is a 45-minute drive.

As well as a number of local and regional buses, High Wycombe also has a railway station serving the town.

There are usually nine trains per hour (with more services during peak times). There are five services to London Marylebone, two of which are direct, and three which are semi-fast. One train per hour travels to Birmingham Moor Street, one to Aylesbury, one to Banbury, and one to Oxford which also calls at Bicester Village.
