Moving to Malmesbury
Atop a perfect flat hill bordered by the River Avon at the southern entrance to the Cotswolds, sits Malmesbury. The town is rightly called the ‘Queen of Hilltop Towns’ as it is England’s oldest borough and steeped in over 1000 years of history.
The suburbs off of Sherston Road are very popular for families looking for a more affordable property in Malmesbury. However, if you follow the snaking High Street up the hill, the off shooting alleys and lanes are full of stone cottages, townhouses and gables. For more period homes with unique features, Bristol Street and Gloucester Road are highly regarded. There are postwar and modern properties dotted around which have much lower asking prices if period properties are not your cup of tea.
Some of the large detached houses and town houses can easily sell for over £1million. However, depending on the property, detached and semi homes can fetch anywhere between £170,000 and £500,000. Terraces and cottages are great for first time buyers, selling between £170,000 and £330,000.
In 2021 Malmesbury had an overall average price of around £388,00, which is more expensive than nearby Brinkworth, but cheaper than Crudwell and Sherston.
