Five Reasons You Should Move to Canada

For many British expats, Canada is a popular country to emigrate to. The amazing scenery, good economy and great lifestyle appeal to many, but there’s so much more to Canada that make it a great place to live. In this blog post we’re going to introduce you to the top five reasons you should consider moving to Canada.

1. State Funded Medical Care

Unlike Americans, if Canadian citizens get ill and require medical treatment, they don’t have to worry about expensive health insurance. Like many parts of Europe, state provided health care is available for all citizens which makes the country very appealing to British expats and those from other parts of Europe.

2. The Weather

The Canadian weather is so varied that you can make the most of different weather-dependent activities during the different seasons. For example Vancouver and Whistler have some of the best skiing resorts in the world and during the summer, temperatures in Toronto can reach 30 degrees centigrade. This means you can enjoy skiing and snowboarding all winter and as the weather warms up in the spring, you can enjoy outdoor summer sports.

3. Great Public Transport

Canadian cities, like Vancouver, are well organised and designed for pedestrians. Public transport is also very reasonably priced and reliable which means you don’t need to drive in many urban areas. This means that you can save money by not having to run a car and it also means that the air quality in most in cities is much better than in other large cities around the world.

4. Stricter Guns Laws and Lower Crime Rates

Canada shares a lot of similarities with the US but one of the major differences between the two countries is their gun laws. In Canada, hand guns are illegal and only a third of the population have licences to carry other types of firearms. Overall crime rates are much lower in Canada compared to the United States. For example, in 2000 the murder rate in Canada was three times smaller than it was in the USA. Although Canada has a lot in common with the USA, one reason a lot of expats choose to move there  instead of the US is that it’s safer.

5. The Amazing Culture and Restaurants

The big cities in Canada like Montreal and Toronto are full of amazing cultural places like Toronto’s Harbour Gallery. As they’re both major global cities, performing acts from all around the world often stop by while on tour. Living in a large Canadian city will give you the chance to see top comedians, arts performances and bands from all around the world. As well as all the cultural days out, there are plenty of amazing restaurants to enjoy as well, like Au Pied de Cochon, one of the most famous French restaurants in North America.

Canada is one of the most popular destinations for expat Brits. The absence of a language barrier, a safe society and the fantastic cultural highlights make Canada an ideal destination. Let us know what you think of living in Canada by leaving a comment below.
