Staying in Touch with Family and Friends Around the World

As little as 15 years ago, keeping in touch with friends and family around the world was a real issue as sending letters and parcels was the only effective option. However, in 2011 it’s now easier than ever to stay in touch with close friends and relatives wherever they are.

Naturally, anyone thinking of moving abroad is likely to be worried about staying in touch with their loved ones back home. So to to help ease your concerns we’ve put together a few ideas that might help you stay in touch with the people that matter to you most.

Start a blog

Detailing your adventures and experiences in your new country on your very own blog will allow you to easily share photos and stories with your friends back home as well as potentially millions of others around the world.

To get some inspiration for creating your own blog have a look at some of our favourite travel blogs (and of course make sure you check out ours)

Create a YouTube account

Videos are great for sharing experiences and updating your friends and relatives on what you’ve been doing. It’s really easy to upload videos to YouTube and once you’ve set up your own channel everyone will know where to go to catch up on your latest productions.

Set up a Flickr account

If you like the idea of sharing your experiences and photos but would prefer to have control over who sees the images, then Flickr is perfect for you. You can upload your pictures and choose who can see them. Perfect for sharing photos of your kid’s birthday parties and images of your new home.

Skype

Calling from abroad on landlines or mobiles can be very expensive, particularly if you’re having long conversations. But with Skype, you can call for as long as you like and it won’t cost you a penny. If your computer has a webcam you can video chat, so your friends and relatives can see how you’re doing wherever you are in the world.
