Using a Removal Company VS. Doing it Yourself

As we all become ever more cost conscious in these challenging economic times there’s an increasing temptation to try and do more things yourself rather than paying a professional to do it for you. In a lot of situations this can make real financial sense but in other scenarios it can cause you a lot of unwanted hassle.

There are a number of jobs that fall somewhere between the easy jobs and the ones that you really shouldn’t attempt on your own. Moving house can be one of those tasks that seems simple enough to do by yourself. Moving all your stuff from one house to another can’t be that difficult, surely? On top of that, who else could you trust with your beloved belongings other than yourself?

So instead of getting a removal company, you can simply hire a van and rope in your family and friends to do the donkey work.

This is great in theory, but there are a few things you may want to consider before calling the van people. Firstly, how much stuff do you have? If you have a lot of things to move you’re going to need a large van but depending on your license you might not actually be able to hire the one you need. This can mean you’ll have to make lots of trips back and forth to move all your stuff.

You also need to think about taking good care of all your items. You may intend to be ultra-careful but mistakes can easily happen when you’re trying to do everything yourself. Hiring a professional to help you will ensure that all your items are carefully packaged and taken care of. If there are any mistakes all your stuff will be insured so you’re financially covered.

As well as being difficult moving heavy items can also be quite dangerous. Lifting large or heavy items can cause strains to your back. Although you may think you’re in good health a day of heavy lifting and carrying can easily cause physical problems.

Hiring a professional to help you move house can help you avoid all these issues and ultimately make the whole process a lot easier and less stressful. If you’re still keen to try and do it yourself you can find advice about how to pack all your stuff on our website. We also supply a range of packaging services to help keep your items safe.
