Britannia Lanes of Devon – Helping During Coronavirus

Britannia Lanes of Devon has been working with Devon County Council to help the vulnerable and self-isolating in the Devon area. Whilst we haven’t been able to do any removals, we have thankfully been able to help our local communities. 260 of our crates are being used to distribute essentials to those who are vulnerable by the great front-line workers at Devon County Council.

The county’s most vulnerable residents, those who have been told to stay at home for 12 weeks, will be sent emergency food parcels by the Devon County Council which has now arrived in Devon. The council has made contact with those people who have been sent a letter by the NHS telling them to shield themselves for 12 weeks, to find out how they can best support these people.

The parcels are free and contain seven days-worth of mostly long-lasting food for one person. Volunteer staff from other council services are packaging up the food parcels are a confidential distribution hub.

Phil Norrey, DCC’s chief executive said: “this means that thousands of our residents who are high risk of severe illness from coronavirus because of underlying health conditions could be left without vital food, medicine, and care supplies, particularly if they live alone and don’t have family, friends or social care services to help them.”

“I urge everyone, especially those in this highly vulnerable group, to follow the Government’s rules on staying at home and away from others, and we will continue to work around the clock to make sure the most vulnerable people are cared for and critical services continue to reach our communities.”
